Kagami (香我美 Kagami?) was the former leader of the Nyogetsu Ninja clan and the Burning Dawn.

Biography[]

She was former leader of Toda Yoshisada's ninja. Later she forms and becomes the leader of a group known as Burning Dawn, which idealistic goals are to create a world where ninja could be free and under the rule of no landlords.

She first appears during the attack on Gohda castle, where her ninja assist the rebellion and later appears at Lord Toda's camp, watching Ayame from afar, before betraying her lord. After Lord Toda is mortally wounded by Tatsumaru, she jumps to the scene and beheads the lord, then takes the head to a cliff and burns it as a signal for her ninja to kill LordToda's men and the birth of the Burning Dawn. Tatsumaru follows her towards a cliff and they fight, as the other Azuma ninja arrive on the scene. They watch on in horror as the cliff crumbles and both fall into the sea, presumably drowning.

KagamiDebut

However it is revealed that she survived along with Tatsumaru, who was affected of memory loss due to the fall. Lady Kagami drags him ashore to the Kansen Caverns and uses this opportunity to recruit Tatsumaru as the Lord of Burning Dawn, Blue Dragon, replacing Seiryu who was killed during the attack on Gohda castle. Lady Kagami reveals a massive warship, the Fire Demon, which she plans to use to challenge those who oppose her. The ship contains enough armor and weaponry to challenge the best samurai and she plans to use it to craft her dream into a reality.

The construction of the Fire Demon had fell behind, so Lady Kagami sends her Lords to kidnap villagers from Gohda's province while Burning Dawn operatives (such as Kamadoma on Demon Mountain) ran similar operations. Lady Kagami also hired the help of the chinese Baliosung Gang to kidnap more villages and hold them in a small fort on an island. Eventually these actions were discovered by Gohda, resulting in Rikimaru killing Kamadoma on Demon Mountain, saving the captives and discovering Lady Kagami's secret harbour where she was transporting slaves.

Meanwhile, Ayame followed the Burning Dawn to Kubon Island and killed Wang and the rest of his Baliosung gang, freeing the prisoners there. Angered, Lady Kagami planned an attack on the Azuma ninja village and sent Suzaku, the Red Sparrow, to distract Rikimaru by attacking a buddhish temple. Meanwhile she sends Tatsumaru to attack the secret quarantine village where Ayame was later sent to defend. With both Azuma ninja absent, Tatsumaru and Lady Kagami attacked the ninja village with several Burning Dawn ninja.

Kagami spares Rikimaru for not killing Tatsumaru

Lady Kagami witnessed Tatsumaru wound Lord Gohda and kill his former master, before Rikimaru returned and engaged Tatsumaru. After beating him in battle, he failed to take his advice and kill him, giving Lady Kagami the opportunity to disarm him allowing the pair to flee past Ayame to the Kansen Caverns.

A romance had begun to develop between Tatsumaru and Lady Kagami as her vision begins to take form. They flee towards the Cherry Tree Hill, where Lady Kagami starts to display her feelings towards Tatsumaru. She treats Tatsumaru's wound by bandaging his arm. Meanwhile Ayame, who had followed the couple until the Hill, confronts Lady Kagami provoking her to fight, but she is calmed by Tatsumaru, who reminds her of the dream causing her to feel ashamed for her outburst. Lady Kagami leaves the place to begin preparation for her plans and leaves Tatsumaru to finish off Ayame.

Later, the Azuma ninja find Tatsumaru and Kagami in the Burning Dawn's hideout and discover her plans to use the Fire Demon to lead a fleet against Gohda Castle.Rikimaru returns to Gohda Castle to inform Lord Gohda of the events and what had been discovered, while Ayame sneaks on board. After realising she had been discovered by the Azuma Ninja, Kagami launches the complete Fire Demon before a defence force can be mounted against her and heads for Gohda Castle.

KagamiDies

Kagami dies with Tatsumaru

Rikimaru also infiltrates the ship and clears his way towards the deck, where he confronts Kagami. She expresses her hopes and dreams for all ninjas and how she won't let anyone stop her vision from coming true. A fierce battle ensues, ending with Rikimaru mortally wounding Kagami before leaving her to die, as Lord Gohda prepares to destroy the ship with a flaming arrow attack. Kagami stumbles upon the body of Tatsumaru, who was defeated by Ayame. She cradles him in her arms and dies, just as the barrage of arrows ignite a cache of explosives, destroying the ship along with her plans.

Personality[]

Despite her outwardly cold demeanor she was capable of compassion. Her sole reason for creating the Burning Dawn was to save her kind from servitude to noble families, who viewed them as expendable and to allow them to forge their own destinies. Her gentler side was displayed when she appointed the gigantic and mentally-handicapped ninja Genbu as one of the four Lords of the Burning Dawn. Kagami treated him with respect and gave him a position of great responsibility while others belittled him. In spite of her claim of having mastered her emotions, she ultimately fell in love with Tatsumaru. Dying from her wounds aboard the Fire Demon, Kagami crawled to his side and told his lifeless body, that she would have liked to have known him in another life and then died with him in her arms.

Appearance[]

Kagami's appearance.

Kagami is a very beautiful woman who stands at a fairly above-average height for women her age, sporting a curvaceous figure as much as fit build. Her trademark armor gear is very revealing, consisting of a purple Fauld Kusazuri around her hip area, a short cuirass/bra that exposes her cleavage and midriff, knee high purple tabi footwear, and a pair of purple sode for her shoulders while carrying her faithful Ōdachi at the hip. She also puts on violet eyeshadow and has her hair tied up. Her choice of attire is efficient and unique, as not only this is true to the fact that some kunoichi wear less armor to better utilize their feminine charm to better overcome male opponents and that she's no exception, but also allows better maneuverability considering the weight of her Ōdachi.

Abilities[]

Kagami was a master ninja and possessed exceptional battle skills. During her service to Lord Toda, she rose to the rank of master of the Nyogetsu ninja clan and following Lord Toda's death, she reorganized the Nyogetsu into the Burning Dawn. She was a brilliant tactician and had a mind capable of formulating plans within plans. Kagami was a persuasive and charismatic individual, able to convince her fellow ninja, who had traditionally lived "in the shadows", to shrug off their captive roles and to live in the light. She also inspired a great deal of loyalty in her followers.

As a combatant, she was a fierce opponent on the battlefield. Unlike most ninja who favored the Ninjato (a type of chokuto devised for ninjas), Kagami used the Ōdachi, an extremely long and curved katana, as her primary weapon. Despite its considerable weight and heft she fully mastered the sword and utilized it to devastating effect. Such were her abilities with swordplay, that she disarmed Rikimaru with a single strike during their initial confrontation in the Azuma Village. She was also adept with shurikens and during the final battle aboard the Fire Demon, she proved to be an efficient fan fighter as well.
