Death cutscenes occur in Tenchu: Stealth Assassins and Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assasins. These cutscenes are played upon the death of the player character, typically during a boss battle, which will result in a game over. While the first installment simply had the victorious enemy taunt the dying player, the sequel has a fully animated death sequence to specify the execution carried out by the Boss.

Rikimaru death scenes[]
- The training course (technically not a death scene)
The scene cuts back to the Azuma Shiunsai's house, with Rikimaru kneeling to him. Shiunsai, with his back towards Rikimaru, merely utters "You have failed, apprentice you must try again...". Rikimaru then hastily bows to him in respect.
- The Gang of thieves
Standing over the bloodied corpse of Rikimaru, Garan maliciously cackles and taunts "The heavens need better servants!" (A counter-remark to Rikimaru's earlier statement "The heavens demand retribution and I will deliver it.")
- Treason at Gohda Castle
The camera pans over to the victorious Motohide, holding the decapitated head of his nephew, Matsunoshin, and coos to him "I'm sorry it had to end this way, nephew...But Compassion is a weakness that rulers cannot afford...."
- Lord Toda's War Camp
The scene shows Rikimaru's body, impaled by Suzaku's katana on the ground. Suzaku then disembowels the body, causing it to twitch, and the camera pans up to Suzaku's mask, as he darkly utters "You're not very entertaining....I didn't even work up a sweat..."
- Demon Moutain
The demon manically cackles and jumps frantically in the air and shouts "Another insects dead!!" as the camera pans to a dead Rikimaru
- The Secret Harbor
Near Rikimaru's bloodied corpse, Wang silently performs a series of fierce kung-fu poses near the body, ending with a high-pitched cackle
- The Temple of Dreams
Rikimaru falls to his fatal wounds and reaches out to his killer, Yukihotaru before falling dead. Yukihotaru turns to the side, hand clasped to chest and mutters softly "I'm sorry it came to this......we could have been......friends..."
- Ninja Village Under Attack.
Tatsumaru silently murmurs "That poor foolish boy..." and proceeds to leave as the camera pans out to the deceased Azuma ninjas, Rikimaru included. He proceeds to leave, but not before glancing back once more at the massacre he has caused.
- In Pursuit of Tatsumaru
Chiro brutally savages Semimaru. As the small ninken howls in gory dispair and pain, the camera pans to the deceased corpses of Rikimaru and Ayame. The victorious Byakko, swishing his weapon, slyly remarks "This is what happens when the mouse challenges the tiger...." followed by a low chuckle.
- The Sea Battle
The camera pans onto Suzaku, standing next to the bloody remains of Rikimaru with a satisfied look on his face. With his face held high, he calmly utters. "I felt it.... his life force...ebbing away...." and gives a groan of pleasure.

As the victor of the battle, Kagami stands firm, holding the deceased Rikimaru's body close to her waist, and with a katana outstretched remarks "Now the castle will fall so my dream can live!"
Ayame death scenes[]

Boron stands over Ayame's broken body and laughs heartily then declares "Boron is unbeatable!"

As Ayame drops dead, Genbu laughs funnily but then makes his nose bleed and clutches it and says "Genbu laughed so hard Genbu hurt his nose, snorted too loud!" then groans painfully.
- The Island Fort
Wang holds Ayame's lifeless body and gives a light laugh then says "Now you die... Excellent...!"
- The Quarantine Village
The Slug, Frog and Snake have beaten Ayame as she crawls weakly giving out "Tatsumaru..." Then the Slug pierces his spear into the dying kunoichi.
- In Pursuit of Tatsumaru
Chiro roars triumphantly over the corpses of Rikimaru, Semimaru and Ayame and byakko is on the tiger with his sword raised in victory.
- The Fire Demon
Genbu has one of his clubs planted on the dead Ayame and regrets to her "Sorry, nice little girl. I couldn't let you win this time..."

Tatsumaru cradles Ayame's lifeless body and says "Forgive me, Ayame."
Tatsumaru death scenes[]
- A Shadow
Seiryu stands over Tatsumaru's dead body and says to him "She gave you a chance! You should've chosen more wisely." as he kicks Tatsumaru off the roof of the castle.
- The Head of Lord Toda
Yoshisada Toda has killed Tatsumaru and mocks "Surely you did not think you could beat Toda Yoshisada." while swiping his katana and laughing maniacally.

Kagami has her katana pierced into Tatsumaru and drops him into the grass. She says "An exceptional ninja has died." then swishes her katana and continues "I regret the loss."
- Guarding the Secret Harbor
Takehito Urano walks away from the downed Tatsumaru as he groans and complains "My back! I've got to get some ice."
- Assault on the Azuma Ninja Village
Asuma Shiunsai walks up to and holds the lifeless hand of Tatsumaru and says in sadness "Tatsumaru..."
- The Final Dawn
Jubei Tachibana has beaten Tatsumaru and holds his broken body in his arms then reminds him 'you won't be forgetting your place again!"

- All games since Stealth Assassins and Birth of the Stealth Assassins do not play special cutscenes if the player dies at the hands of a boss. At most, some games have enemies and bosses react to the player's death with a special quote.
